Hi All

I thought I would ask you guys if you know of any way to bring a PS3 back to life. It’s the 120gig PS3 slim, it’s less than 2 years old and it not turning on. No yellow lights or flashing lights, just no power.

It was working fine yesterday morning, I get home from work and nothing. I called Sony and they have said it’s out of warranty and it will cost me £110 to replace it through them. I tried it again this morning, as I had heard if you leave it without power it can revive itself but still nothing.

The worst thing it has GTAV in the console! I at the very least need to get that out!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it got the "buyaPS4" patch haha.

Seriously though if it was a hardware failure within the console I'd expect some sort of action from it (e.g. yellow light, atleast some sound of it trying to boot etc) but if there's literally nothing then it could be a power source failure. First try it in a different socket and then if that doesn't work try and find a mate who can lend you their power cable and see if it works with that.

If it works, jump on Ebay and buy yourself a new cable, if that doesn't work then you're into the whole getting it repaired/replaced.

Pretty sure EU law says electrical equipment must last a "reasonable" amount of time. I'm pretty sure 2 years for an expensive games console isn't "reasonable" so keep pushing for a free repair.

It was under that same ruling that I had a 40" LCD TV replaced after 4.5 years due to some banding that occurred.

This.
Two years is nothing - 5 is more realistic.

i followed this on more with sony, they are flat out refusing reducing the price let alone doing it for free. i managed to get the disc out thanks to a youtube video. still no ps3 though.

Your contract isn't with Sony, it's with the place you bought it from. Quote the sale of goods act to them and ask them for a fix or replacement (their choice).

All you can hope for now is that a Pre-owned PS3 will be dirt cheap following the PS4 release.

Well if your only option is replacement you might as well crack it open and have a poke about yourself and see if its anything obvious, or will that affect their willingness to replace it?

yes

they will only take it if all the seals etc are not broken. tbh my mate has offered to look at it. he saves fat ps3's from RROD as a side job. just weighing up the risk,

1. do i let him look at it if it fails i'll need to buy a new or used machine
2. if it works itll only cost me parts
3. give sony £110 to replace it

Well Game are doing that console pre-owned for £129.99 and thats before the PS4 has been release so expect it to drop a little more yet.

That means if you risk letting your mate play around with it and it backfires at worst it'd only cost you £20 more than it would have done through Sony anyway.

If you're confident your mate knows his way around the console then maybe take a gamble on him as it could save you a fair bit.
