Wedge Vs Porsche….No contest.
Discussion
Hi Peeps…Running about doing some chore's today and when i headed home it was chucking out time at the school on my route home..I was sitting behind a boxster and about 50 school kids from 1st-4th year were shouting out.."Whoa look at that"..And pointing to Delilah..I heard some say.."Look at dem wheels man day are sick innit".. Which i understand as meaning nice..I then heard a couple of them sitting at the bus stop say…"I like the red one"…To which i smugly replied…"So do i…Its a TVR..A real mans car"..The porsche then tried to redeem itself by taking off a bit lively but Delilah was in hot pursuit..She never let me down as she screeched some rubber off the rears to the cheer of a small crowd…I think the porker was a bit intimidated...
..Aren't Wedges wonderful…Ziga
..Aren't Wedges wonderful…Ziga I'm looking to replace my everyday driver, an E46 M3 with a 911, the later water cooled ones tantalisingly cheaper than the older air cooled ones....
A little research explained why, they have an intermediate bearing in the engine (aka IMS) which can fail without warning, completely mashing the engine internals, irrespective of mileage, service history etc eek!!
I couldn't enjoy a car awaiting such potential doom
Maybe a Cerbera instead then? (I'll need the +2 for kids)

I think you will find that they were impressed..My 31 year old 280i kept up with a Boxster thats only a few years old…Either that or they can't drive for shyte..
In fact you couldn't even hear the engine of the porsche over my macho sounding "No silencers" system…I do like the classic 911 Targa's but some of the later cars were just a load of poo!...

Glad it wasn't me

Strangely though, since getting the porker I've had loads of comments about how rich I must be now. Even though the value is similar to the wedge I had.
£15-£20k is the usual guess. No coffee bean gestures yet neither
As for the IMS bearing issue mentioned above, every car brand has it's own reliability faults. Mazda-DPF, Mondeo-dual mass flywheel etc etc. And dare I say it-----TVR-unreliable, always breaking down, blown engines etc. But it's the same for any brand, the negatives you hear about but all the positives are never mentioned. Early boxsters---1% chance of failure, later ones---8% chance of failure.
When is the V8 arriving zig???? I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for updates

I had a 72 911, a mech fuel injected car(high pressure FI
) I would drive it alternately with my 280i.
I would say the 911 was a more willing combatant. I sold it as the 72 was a collectable year due to the external oil filler and the prices went up. After 72 Porsche produced a cheaper 911 (a 2.7 CIS) very similar fuel injection to the 280i and possibly the reason the 280 went to Bosch for the 280i.
The 72 was better than the 280, the 73 and onward 2.7 was about the same but with steerable steering
I'd take a 280 over a 2.7 911
Not keen on Boxsters, they need an arrow on the side to denote the front.
I've only driven a Boxster S, once your in it, it's nice. Wouldn't own one though.

I am pretty sure you can get a fix with upgraded components for the ims issue. It is several hundred pounds, but if you really fancy one build this into your budget.
