Looking to downsize from the A8 as my commute has been slashed. Now after something cheaper to run and more accessible in terms of performance. I am looking at the Civic Type-Rs they have. I gave them a quick call last night and they seemed straight enough.

Has anyone had any dealings with them? Have you heard anything bad about them?

T'internet doesnt shed much light, hence starting a topic here.

No naming and shaming on here so you won't get any bad reports (if there are any).

To be honest, what are you after?? CTR's are hardly rare cars, so you have plenty of choice in the market.

If you want to buy from this trader then, inspect the vehicle and ensure you are happy with it and it's condition and the price you are paying. If not, don't buy.

It really isn't a difficult thing to do.

Remember the prime reason for traders like this is to offer a selection of cars on a forecourt and the ability to inspect and test drive them. And that's about it. They don't offer 'better' cars and while they may include warranties and have some legal obligations, you should recognise these are not the reasons such businesses exist.

If this is the place I'm thinking of, then I'm sure it's been there a long time. So make of this what you will.

As a side note, if you aren't confident in your ability to inspect the car and you don't trust the person you are buying from. Find a capable friend or pay a 3rd party to inspect the car for you.

I know what you are saying, what you cant get from speaking to them directly are the experiences of their customers. Another reason I am looking at them is because they are farily local and seem to have more EP3 Rs than many other dealers.

I feel confident enough but I am aware of my limitations. I may miss something one of you guys wouldnt. Quite often dealers can hide faults that are difficult to pick up straight away, one way to shed some light on any potential dodginess is to ask around for their requtation.

Are you offering your services as a friend or a paid mechanic?

Well I'm certainly more than happy to aid a fellow PH'er. Although I admit I'm no mechanic, although I do enjoy spannering on my own vehicles.

And I do understand what you are asking, the only trouble is, every business will have happy and unhappy customers. So reputations can be misleading, even more so when people only tend to post about the bad rather than the good.

I've just Googled them and I apologies it wasn't the place I was thinking of, although I do know where they are.

Places like this buy on bulk and won't likely really inspect each vehicle very well and they'll just want to chop them out quick. I wouldn't expect a great 1:1 experience. But you can exploit them just as much if they have something you want at the right price.

I'm sure you could get a great car from them, but you may also not. It really is important to inspect the vehicle very well and be very happy before you hand your money over. Years back I used to deliver used cars to places like this, many are bought at auction without even being inspected. So sometimes they get a good example and sometimes not.

Have been to their site in Dunstable last year when I was looking for a cheap commuter. The've got loads of cars and try to operate in the same way as the Whitecity outfit (although on a smaller scale). Prices are (near enough) non-negotiable and test drive was limited to a quick run around the local roads.

Sounds about what I'd expect. A yard with lots of choice of vehicles, wanting people to buy on colour more than actual model. If you don't like this one, we have some red ones over here.... kind of thing.

Nothing wrong with buying like this, although I'd personally probably be prepared to put a little more effort in and buy from a smaller trader or private seller.
