And today's muppet is..........

I have to confess to doing something similar 30 years ago. Just bought my first house and was running an MGB GT. Needed to collect 2 x 3mtr lengths of kitchen worktop from the local DIY about 8 miles away and couldn't lay my hands on a more suitable car. The chap's face in the DIY when he offered to help me load my car was a picture! "Which car, sir" - White MGBGT was my reply! They went in, across the top of the passenger seat and on to the dashboard, but there was quite a bit sticking out the back. Drove home like this with no problems. These days , I'm sure , plod would not take too kindly to such antics, ( H&S) but back in the day it was a fairly normal thing to do. No children or fluffy animals were hurt in any way.
I went to pick up a king sized mattress. I had a LWB Nissan Terrano at the time so thought nothing of it. And I had my kids with me, about 7 & 5 at the time. But the mattress was bigger than I imagined and to get it in all the seats had to go down, so I had to drive about 20 miles with both kids in the front passenger seat, with the seatbelt over them both. Highly illegal.
"If we get stopped" I said jokingly, "tell the policeman you're siamese twins."
"But he's 2 yrs older than me" said the little one.
"We'll say it was a very traumatic birth" replied my eldest!!!!

Thats right up there with the muppets I saw on the m60 a couple of weeks ago. Pissing with rain and saw a megane cabrio with the roof down and a full size fridge freezer leaning from the back seat onto the screen rail (on the passenger side) with a guy sat in behind the driver to hold the fridge still!
