Quick question - father in law is buying a 1-2yr old c-class diesel, he's aware the new model is out around June 2014 but that is out of budget. Any ideas how much values will drop between say now and February 2014?

Thanks!

Contract hire it, some silly deals coming out.

Brand new one for £180 a month including vat.

You would have to be a bit of a numpty to buy one when a new one is that price.

Leasing can make sense if you're comparing with buying new selling at 3yrs and doing low mileage. But none of that applies to my father in law - he will run the car for 10yrs and do 30000 miles per year then scrap it. Think I'm joking? His current 53 plate has done 370k (and no he's not a taxi driver!). So only need advice on buying...

Wait for the run out deals then, you will get dealer contributions of £6000+ and then 15% discount on top.
They will be giving them away with Frosties!

In other words buying a 2 year old car now is pointless.

It won't make any difference what time of year you buy one; just need to find one with the right spec if he's going to do that many miles in it!

Completely disagree. Wander down to your local MB dealership towards the end of Jan or Feb 2014 clutching a bundle of £50 notes - they'll be delighted to see you and come up with some tasty offers.

I see the new C-class every other day here in Stuttgart, trundling up and down the road to Vaihingen, lightly disguised.
Think 'stretched CLA'.
It is not an attractive vehicle.

Those are pre reg 62 plates so once they're gone that's it.

Normally with leasing you don't pay deposit/rentals until after the car is delivered.

Other costs like broker costs you can pay with credit card to get protection.

I've just seen an undisguised C-Class parked up here in Stuttgart and would like to revise my opinion.

It is utterly, beguilingly gorgeous.

Wait for the new C-Class. It looks the absolute tits.

The 204 will look so dated when the 205 hits, especially the interior, that is where the current C Class lets itself down.
