I am looking at building a collection of Airliners that I have travelled on.

Most of them are now defunct ( Britannia, Airtours, Inter European etc... )

I'm not looking for highly detailed Diecast such as Dragon wings, Gemini jets and so on.

Just the snap together kits that you could buy on the flight itself. I think they are roughly 1:200 scale.

Google searching has been fruitless and I no longer use ebay.

Does anyone know of websites/shops that dal with these? I realise that they will be discontinued so second hand is the only way. Thanks in advance.

Wooster was the company that produced many of these kits.

Have you thought of building any kits - such as Airfix, Roden, Minicraft etc?

I have just started building 1:24 cars again after a short absence. I don't really want to go down that road with airline models to be honest.

I will be happy with the simple snap together kits. I was a little dissapointed after my most recent flight on a Jet2 757-200 that they had none in stock on the outbound and return flights.

Airliner models are simpler to construct compared to most other aircraft kits - especially if you build some of the newer models produced by Minicraft, Roden or, best of all, Revell and Zvezda. Hasegawa do a nice range of 1/200 scale kits.

The beauty of airliner models is that in 1/144 scale or 1/200, you do not have to use glazing to represent the cabin or flight deck windows. In fact, in those smaller scales, decals provide a better option - especially if the windows have metallic or chromed surrounds - something that is almost impossible to replicate with clear windows in that scale.

There are now a great selection of alternative decal sheets for "classic" airliners from companies like "Two Six" decals or "Classic Airliners" decals.

I occasionally build an airliner model now and then although it's a while since a built one.
This is the last airliner kit I built -

I like classic Aer Lingus schemes so my next model I hope to be will an Irish International Boeing 720. Roden have just released a kit of the Boeing 720 (the first ever injection moulded kit of the 720) and I picked up a set of decals at Telford last weekend.

Try The Aviation Shop at Manchester Airport. They sell kits like that. Not sure about the older ones but the person who runs it would probably know.

As previously mentioned, kits are out of the question due to time and expense. I have managed to locate a Britannia Boeing 757-200 and an Airtours Airbus A320-200 today thanks to. Local(ish) second hand toy shop.

Will give Manchester Airport aviation shop a call tomorrow to see if they can help.

Thanks.

Thanks - I intend to build a few more Aer Lingus/Irish International liveried classics. A Boeing 720 should be next up - although I won't even start it until February due to work commitments.

The aviation shop at East Midlands is surprisingly well-stocked for its size and the owner is a gem. Might be worth a 'phone call.
