Buying a used car?
Discussion
Well keep your mouth shut!
I'm in the process of buying 2 cars from somewhere. One car to replace Mrs V's Corsa and a used toy for me. Once colleagues or friends have got wind of this they are constantly offering their cars as the next best thing since sliced bread. I'm wondering how some of them aren't used car salesman considering how mercenary they are getting:
Colleague: "My MG ZT 260 Automatic is perfect for Mrs V."
Me: "She want's a new car, not a ten year old car. She wants something Eurobox and economical and most importantly SMALL!"
Friend: "You don't want a Land Rover, you want my Toyota Supra.... It's got blah blah blah and is only £12,500 to you..."
Me: "So about £10k more than it's actually worth then. It's a shed!"

I sometimes do this light heartedly. You never know, you may well come into contact with someone who wants a car like yours. I sold a Golf GTi to my neighbour. He came over one day when I was washing it and said how much he liked the colour etc. I mentioned that I was about the advertise it. He said he was interested. Deal was done in 2 minutes. 10 years on he always says it was the best car he ever bought. Perfect deal really. I got more than and I wanted and avoided the hassle of selling. He got a 10 month old car which he had seen me lovingly valet every week so he knew what he was buying.
The problem with buying/selling cars is that everyone is an expert and everyone had an opinion, which has to be said, is mostly wrong.
I do it everyday, you'd think I'd know what I was talking about as I buy and sell circa 1500 cars a year but the bloke who buys one car every five years and has What Car? tucked under his arms, he's the expert!
