Battory and Oil
Discussion
Was fuming, I noticed the battory level had dropped the other day (back to normal, after the alternator died it was charged up to max over night) then today, i notice it dropped further, quite a bit
After much cursing, wondering how much hell others had been through, when do you reach the point where you loose your rag/get really upset, I realised that with the engine off and ignition on, the volt meter is lower
Moving swiftly on, oil... The level was below the line, put in 1 litre, and its only half full now. How much oil do they take? And how often does everyone here tend to check their own levels?

Oil usage in the Rover V8 is often discussed over in the Wedge forum. It seems to alarm alot of people, myself included when I first got a SEAC.
The first question is what oil are you using? I eventually went for the thickest good qaulity oil I could find during the summer, usually a 15/50 nowadays. During the winter I used Magnatec, but the older thicker stuff. The plate on my engine recommended 20/50, so if you use anything synthetic for high performance engines the old Rover engine was never designed for it. My old car had a blue printed engine so drank the stuff when cold. Doing short runs in the winter I was topping her up every couple of runs, but on a decent run she hardly used any.
Just assume the engine is a two stroke and don't worry about it!

on most engines, a litre should take you from the "low"! mark to the "full" mark on the dipstick. Are you sure you are pushing the stick right in?
I don't use my S that often, mainly weekends and even then not every weekend - I check the oil and water levels every day before I use it though.
