Recommend a decent iPhone strategy game

Can anyone recommend a decent castle-building/attack/strategy game for the iPhone that doesn't seem to demand dollops of cash all the time? I installed Empire and liked the graphics but it's a bit too complex too quickly and seems to channel you towards buying credits otherwise you'll get nowhere.

Is that the way of these things, or is there anything decent I can play that just lets me.... play?

Try Tribal Wars. I use the browser version on Iphone but there's also an App. Addictive and easy to get into. Tribalwars.co.uk is nearly all UK players, .net is all over the world. UK World 18 started today so not a bad time to give it a go.
