Does the LS7 slot straight into the GTR or is there any modifications required on the engine mountings prior to dropping it in?

I'm pretty sure the LS series pretty much is interchangeable though there will be detail changes with things like starters and flywheels.

No idea with SBC.

NO MODS necessary ultima will suppply the necessary adaptors to move the engine to the right location. you will need to turn the manifold around, which requires some machining of the intake.

Check regarding the Ultima supplied mounting plates, mine needed modding, despite checking and being assured they didn't.

I beg to differ with the statement that the intake manifold will needs mods to turn around but both builds that I have been apart of have never seen this problem. The intake literally bolts on backwards. Lee

I flipped an ls7 intake around that was being installed onto an ls9 TT. I had to fettle it's underside because of the oil pressure sensor being to tall. I removed the factory sensor and raised boss, then tapped and threaded the valley cover for a 90 degree elbow oil pressure line. I fettled a small amount of plastic from the underside of the plenum, below the MAF.

I own a car here in California that may have been (one of the) earliest builds with an LS7. The car was built in Florida and was completed in 2006. It was done prior to factory support of that motor so the owner/builder had to fabricate mounts and headers (among other things). But it is a beautiful install and did not require any significant changes to the engine compartment. So yes, especially with factory support this is a straightforward alternative to a small-block.
And it is a thing of beauty lying in there and makes an enormous amount of fuel-injected power and torque. It is quite amazing and I'd recommend it to anyone doing a build.

The intake manifold (if standard LS7) flips straight around, however the issue as mentioned above is that the oil pressure sensor in the valley cover is too tall - it needs machining down and plugging up. Then the intake flips round without an issue.

KATECH has a product that makes it very easy to reverse the intake manifold.
Please see this page for details. It is well made and looks and works perfectly.

I have used it with the stock LS7 intake as well as a FAST 102 without any issues.

It's a bit pricy but you get a machined valley cover plate with O-Ring sealing for the oil pressure sensor adapter. The 90 Deg oil pressure sensor adapter is CNC machined.

Hi Jonny

I "machined" mine down with a hacksaw and file.

Seems to work!!

Alex,
Do a trial fit before you buy expensive adapters or chop the sender down. This is an LS6 with reversed inlet. The sender does not foul the inlet and the plug just fits straight on. Maybe an LS6 is different in this respect - but worth a try.

The LS7 has a raised neck on the cover where the sender is fitted - about 40mm high.

After chopping mine off I drilled a hole in my block, tapped it and fitted the pressure sender in there. Took a brave pill but worked a treat.
