997 Insurance - NO no-claims
Discussion
Hi
Hoping to get a 997 c2s in Jan.
Where do ppl advise for insurance?
3000 miles per year - social use only
29 yrs old (going on 30 in April)
5 year old 997
I've not driven in years as am London based, hence have NO no-claims bonus (apart from 2 yrs of no-claims 10 years ago when I drove outside the UK
Best to use a comparison site and go with the cheapest, or are there any specialist insurers I should speak to?
Thks.

I have the same car, although I'm a good (good?) bit older at 44, and I have a full no-claims. However, Direct Line ended up being the cheapest for me, with my no-claims initially being used on my other car. It might be worth giving them a bell.
Good luck, and enjoy the car - I'm smitten with mine.

Similar position to me when I bought my 997 turbo. Admiral by a very long way best price, but I wondered if they were any good with a claim.
Well, windscreen went on a Saturday, called them and they arranged a callback within the hour. In that time they had organised a staff member to stay in the workshop, delivered a genuine Porsche screen from another depot and had me driving away within 5hours.
I genuinely can't see how they could have been any better. I had the screen checked by a Porsche tech when I was at the OPC, and they said it was a first rate job.

Great info guys, much appreciated.
Did a comparison and seems to be quotes from "insure your Motor", "A Choice" and "Performance Direct" at ok prices (£1200-1350), but then I see compulsory excess of £3,000!!
Of those with an excess of £500, the following comes up:
"Bell (part of Admiral Group)" = £1580 - although a box has to be fitted and not sure id like that!
"Elephant" = £1760
"Diamond" = £1790
"Admiral" = £1810
Bit more than I was hoping for but I guess will continue to look around.....

If you're employed somewhere that has a company policy that covers you for driving their vehicles (even if you've not had cause to actually do so) then you may get a decent NCD allowance for that if your employer will put in writing that you've been on their policy claim-free for X years.
Do not get a little black box fitted.
If you drive your car properly (accelerate deliberately rather than pootling up in 4th and 2000 rpm; brake hard rather than letting your foot rest on the brake for 30 seconds)...you will be considered a "high risk" driver for the purposes of your renewal.

The defacto ratings for insurance companies are here which will give you a guide in the general quality of cover between the major players:

There is another insurance thread going at the moment but the only problem with Admiral is with regards to factory fitted options.
So for example, if you have Aerokit, PCCB, Sports exhaust, different wheels etc. and some or all of these get damaged in an accident, if they are not declared to Admiral at the time of the policy quote, they won't be covered.
Once you declare the options, the price in cover between Aviva and Admiral tends to (not always!) close. Aviva can also grant 15% off your car policy if, you take out home insurance with them.
If no NCB on a Porsche 997, you'll need to bend over and take it like a man in any case.

I thought what the car came out the factorybvwith was classed as standard options I.e. if somebody specced bigger wheels then they were still classed as standard as they had been on since new?http://www.defaqto.com/star-ratings/Home-life-trav...

Not with Admiral they don't. You have to register any options or they don't get covered. Trash a car brand new car with £20K of opitions and you will get £20K less than you expected.
There will be some specialists who will not touch you, I can think of at least two who asked if you have ever had a similar car before, event for 25 year old classics.

I had a long conversation with a claims manager about the options.
The end result was that you will get the market price for the car regardless. If you buy a car like mine with adaptive seats, PCCB's and a few other options, how much more is it worth than standard? Certainly not the cost of the options.
I was told (used my works recorded call system for back up) the car is insured, just with a standard market value.

Market value only applies if your car is a write off, what happens if it is a bad shunt from an angle (like I had in my Boxster) and its a repair job?The end result was that you will get the market price for the car regardless. At worst I am looking at PDLS Xenons, Different 19inchers, PCCBS, Front Aerokit splitter. None of these would be covered unless they were listed item by item.
