The springs on my Nitrons are a joke ,they are wound up so far to achieve the preferred ride heights . Where do I buy them and what rating do I need . currently on 275 and 325 which come with the shock absorbers . I don`t want to have them to harsh for road use .

DaZ, I know you don't want it too harsh so go your weight + 20%.

Go for Eibach springs as they don't sag.

I bought mine 4-5 years ago for £50 each from Dulfords so not exactly the cheapest place!

I'm currently running 400's all round, it is a hard ride and not easy to get a nice front/rear damper balance but I wouldn't say they were too hard. I had 400 front 325 rear previously and I found the rears were too soft, I even hit bump stop on a few occasions.

This is what I am running and I also am bottoming out occasionally. (Not hitting bumpstops, car is grinding on road over bumps at 'significant' speed)

I have just raised the ride height so hopefully this will stop it, if not I'll be putting either 350 or 375’s on the back.

I certainly don't find it too hard but I wouldn't want any softer on ther rear.

If the ride height is set correctly, 325 rears are fine for the road.

Daz you don't half gripe about your suspension...... nothing you try seems to suit you.
I can only think you trying the very top end of what's available will you then he satisfied.

So searched intrax.ohlins etc?

Daz, you are welcome to come and try mine and inspect the dampers themselves. I am 400 front and 375 rear, and it feels no harder than my old soft dampers. You can adjust for hard springs by running the dampers a little softer. You could probably go even stronger springs that that.

What Peter says about non-sag springs is relevant. I have had to have my ride height adjusted quite a bit only 4 weeks after installing the GGPs

I`m happy with the Nitrons but I think the rear are to soft ,the springs are wound half way down the threads ,that can`t be a good thing .

Just emailed Nitron to find out exactly what spring rated I have .

Your spring rates will be written in the booklet Nitron supplied with them.

I am running 500/450 and with damping set low the comfort level is fine on normal road, that said I still have the tyre cushion of 15/16inch wheels.

Daz, get thy rear in the car and come and try mine (400/375) before you buy. I am at home most of ths week. Just phone before you set off. We can have a fiddle with damper settings and you can get a better idea what spring rates to try.

Is it just that the spring sits too high up the thread on the dampers or is it too soft on the ride quality

The spring sits very high ,or in my case very low because they are fitted up side down .. Does that restrict the amount of movement.

No. As long as the springs dont go coil bound on full compression they are fine

That was my problem with the GAZ 325s, they were too compressed at rest and after a few years with me wondering why I had to reset the rear ride height periodically I noticed that there was hardly any compression travel left. It took me a while to spot it because every time I had sight of the springs they were off load. Also I wasn't hitting the bump stop as I thought, I was hitting total spring compression

If they are/will be coil bound on compression then you may not want the same length.
Why not just drop your car off with Julian and let him sort it out?
