Morning all.

At the moment I have a couple of mission speakers and a paradigm sub running from an onkyo 309 amp.

We are decorating and I want to reduce the size of the speakers but not lose any sound or improve upon it.

Anyone have a recommendation?

Small speakers can be good, but I hate to say it. Size matters.

I've got some Etude MP1's (made in the 70/80s) and would love to get smaller speakers (they are nick named the wardrobes for good reason!), but nothing comes close. Nothing that would actually save me a noticeable amount of space anyway...

I've just replaced some bulky PMC TB2 speakers with flat on wall MK MP150 speakers. They need a subwoofer for the lowest notes, but even without they produce a surprisingly solid amount of bass, since they are designed to crossover to the sub at 80Hz. IMHO they sound fantastic and are in no way limited due to the wall mounted design, in fact it means that they are less influenced by the room as they are meant to be mounted to the wall. The imaging is really impressive too: I'm currently only running two while I save up for the third centre speaker, yet even sitting off centre the sound still appears to come from the middle of the screen. I hear details with them I've not noticed before even on very familiar tracks.

Unfortunately they are rather expensive at around 1k per speaker (ie 2k a pair). I've also tried PMC Wafer 1 speakers which are also a wall mounted speaker, though a little larger and not as good sounding (IMHO), though cost around £1600 new for a pair (again they are usually priced singly).

(MK have recently launched a white version of the MP150 speaker as well if this is more in keeping with your decor).

Unfortunately size really does matter. However you could try Dynaudio for some decent small speakers. I have a pair of little Audience 42's and they're very good for the size.
