Has anybody had any trouble with the FFRR and ferry standard height allowances? I'm going P&O and the online ticketing has a standard maximum height of 1.80m. Various LR spec sites give the height as either just below 1.80m or just above.
Mine's a Vogue on a '57 plate if it matters. Thanks.

Go with it. Worse case you have to lower the ride height on the ferry.

Never had a problem with my Sport, which I will accept has a lower roofline, but not by much.

Flip down your sun visor... IIRC - The height should be shown on the sticker there. smile

Remember that the RaRo has airi suspension and can operate at different heights. 'Access' height is what you want... Press & hold the switch and it'll lock it in access too.

I have a feeling that access height is 1.86m - will check mine later.

Also if you're really that tight on headroom (I'd hate to be!) then are your wheels/tyres either standard, or the same rolling diameter as standard?

Finally, when really pushed, use the Venture cam to monitor the roof of the car!

"Venture cam"??? There's so much about this car I haven't found out yet smile

Edited to say: Yes, standard 19's.

Checking the brochure - the height is 1,877mm, reducing to 1,837mm in access height.

I used the Eurotunnel this year, on the normal single car deck, and that is limited to 1,850mm. I had no problems locked in access mode, apart from that clenching moment as you drive on...close! I think your ferry limit is too low unfortunately.

I got moaned at when I boarded Condor this year, my Land Cruiser V8 is 1.86 high, I booked it in as 1.85 or under, the same as I do 3 or 4 times a year without issue.

The snotty woman who was handing out the tickets told me that next time I may not be allowed to board due to understating the height of my vehicle.
I tried explaining that I cross several times a year without issue, but she was having none of it, so when I got home I complained about her attitude and got an apology, but I was told to let them know in advance in future to prevent any further issues.

I'd make a call to clarify just to be on the safe side.

yes Down in the passenger footwell there should be a flip-down socket with a cam in it. You view it via the dash. Does depend on year - I think it was standard from about 2004, and standard on Vogue upwards. Mine has one, but it's more a novelty than a tool really - but I have used it in a low car park as above, just to be 100%!

I used the P&O ferry from Troon to Larne a few times with no issues. I dropped it into access height just in case, but it was fine.

Dont know if anyone has noticed ...but ships actually move around in the sea, so dont compare it to your local council multi-storey car park.
If you hit any bad weather the vehicle body will be lifting on its suspension as the vessel goes over the top of a wave.
When your up in the accommodation falling about with the ships motion ....the vehicles on the car decks are doing a right dance !

Normally at these times you find a 20 tonne steel coil of cargo come out the side of a curtain sided truck as its been sitting in a well on the trailer and not strapped in - thinking gravity will keep it in.

That's a very good and valid point. Think I'll call P&O and admit a mistake. They'll no doubt charge me though. Or should I just pull up to the check in booth and plead ignorance and hope they guide me onto a deck with higher clearance and not charge me? wink

Lock it in access mode and it wont lift the suspension at all.
