Hi Mate…Im on the understanding that the original caps were made by Ceandess which initially were made for British motorcycles..The company is starting to re-make some as there has be quite a bit of interest from classic MC's.

They are not cheap but as an alternative solution you could go the route that i took..

I used something like this and connected it to the filler hoses where the original part sat.

Cheers mate, had already emailed ceandess to see if they make anything that fitted. Not sure I fancy taking the existing filler neck out so might pay the premium instead.

How big are the 280 ones Shaun? I measured mine last night it's 2.5" on the top, to fit a 2" pipe.

I have used one from a 350i on my 280i..I can't see TVR using different sizes of filler necks?….Cheers…Ziga

I think i have jinxed myself..What is it with me..Petrol and wedges?..Look I'm sorry TVR gods i never meant what i said about a sacrificial TVR at BBWF 2011..Ok..Im sorry...weeping

While i was working on poppy earlier i could smell petrol…When i looked at the filler flap i could see petrol running down the side of her..It wasn't doing before i started her so perhaps the return pipe has caused pressure..The cap is naff obviously so Shaun i will have the other one if its up for grabs please…Cheers…Ziga

Mark , is this with the car on that rotten camber you seem to have at your gaff? If you have filled the car then it will dribble out either from the cap if its a bad seal or the more common instance is the fuel breather on the other side wheel arch. Check the breather for blockage while it is on the ramps matey.

yeah the petrol smell on mine is slightly concerning, i reckon its just the breather and the fact that i filled the tank up (to the 1st click). nothing leaking out of the filler but i havent pulled any of the trim back on the inside to see whats going on. one for sunday i think.

Hi Mate…Could be the breather..I found that by plugging it up and then seeing if i could smell petrol used to confirm it was just the breather..Don't forget to un-plug it afterwards though….Ziga

sounds like a plan, does that trim come off easy?

You shouldn't need to take any trim off…If you look behind the rear N/S wheel then you should see a petrol pipe hanging down..Just pug it with something that can be removed easy and see if you still smell petrol…The only time you need to take the trim off is if you can smell strong raw petrol in the hole where the drivers seat belt goes in to…Ziga

Petrol Smells - drives me crazy.

Whenever I fill up my wedge to the 'click', it smells of petrol. It fades as the tank empties.
I have checked the breather, the pipework underneath, looked around petrol cap and filler (inside and out), and there are no visible leaks. No drips on ground either.
Did change fuel sender gasket a while ago, as that WAS leaking.
Yes, breather is OK, doing a fast corner when full does eject a little bit of petrol out the breather pipe.
Weird thing is that around the filler cap itself there is no smell.

I can only assume there is a crack in the pipework (probably in the large connector between the tanks) , or a small pin prick somewhere in the metal bits that I haven't found.

It's a worry, but so far only the smell.....

laugh…Forgot to say that it runs under the boot valance and would of helped you to determine where it is…I think most wedges smell of petrol….But its always a worry with a fibreglass car...eek
