Well it's due to get cold down south so swapped over the summer rims to winter - anyone else on here doing that?

Massive difference in grip already on this mornings commute - at about 7 degrees - should be even more marked when the weather turns colder...

It's snowing here tonight, so winters will go on the X5 later this week and will get the 911 swapped over next week. Assuming of course that I can get to the dealers where they're stored…

Cool - yes swapped the X5 at the same time - can't have the kids getting stranded!

I changed the Boxster and the A6 Quattro over at the weekend. Bring on the snow - both cars are great fun to drive in it, especially the Boxster with the roof down!

Good to see I'm not the only crazy one.

Having said that - unbelievable how good they have been in the last two days in near zero temp - the grip you get from the tyres is almost on par with good summer tyres on a 20 degree day - its absolutely stonking. Love them.

Mine went on on Monday too. Also applied Gummi Pflege to everything before it freezes shut!

Summer Rims

Winter Rims

Have to say really enjoying the car on the Winters - excellent grip in these conditions - makes the car a proper year round proposition...

Put the winters on the wife's car last weekend, just before the road outside our house turned into an ice rink. Will be putting them on my 4S either today, if I can be arsed to drag the trolley jack out, or during the week. Those who haven't driven on winters will never know how good they are ( and usually slag off those who fit them).

-5°C when I left the house this morning, so the summer tyres (PS2s) felt very stiff and unsettled. Came back on the winters (Sottozeros) this afternoon, noticing both that the usual applies - steering slightly heavier and less 'feelsome' and more road noise, but that ride felt considerably more supple. Definitely time to change over. Although weather forecast is for 10°C by the weekend, so I guess we can't win…

A 911 or boxster/cayman on steels would look awesome. Can you get them?

I wish I could get winters on my GT3. The only problem ill need another set of GT3 rims, as C2 996 front alloys won't fit over the front callipers.

Is it possible to get 295/30/18 winters?

Mine will go on this weekend... From 18s to a set of 17s with vredestein wintrac extremes on. They were superb last year and got me out of my hilly estate where 4x4s on summer rubber were stuck.

They do feel utterly different. Even as a non driving god I find tyres make a huge difference to a car, and it seems the 911 is particularly sensitive to tyre choice for the feel you then get...
