I'm thinking of moving my number plate from the rear grill.

and dropping it down below, like this.

Q1. What is the legality of having a smaller style?

Q2. What's the best way to attach and where did you mount your number plate light?

As Adrian says, and number plate light just stays where it is.

what he said... you can have full size letters and just trim the outer down a little, i left mine with 10mm overhang on the grill and looked close to stock and didn't look bad imo... was never pulled for it.

I seem to remember measuring the depth, and for it to sit flush the plate would have to be something like 76mm. You wont be able to get full size digits on there as they are 79mm.

We have a numberplate machine, Happy to make show plates for people but they would have to be cut down by yourselves

I'd leave it where it is, and modify the fixing mechanism so you can whip it off in less than a minute before going on track. You don't need the extra cooling airflow for normal road use, and the fewer reasons you give the bib for pulling you over the better. I was pulled over in Essex for a non-standard plate, so it does happen.

Here's the official spec. I had fancyplates make some to the absolute minimum legal size although no manufacturer details so not strictly legal. Still loooked big so run with a 3/4 front plate and about 7/8 rear. Given the relatively small size of the car it's hard to see they are not standard but look a lot better. I think if you stick to standard font and spacing you're unlikely to have much of an issue.

PS I clip on a standard front come MOT time

I'm going to order a smaller one, like on the Blue car I posted.
Could someone measure the height of this area, as I don't pick my car up until next weekend.

IIRC I had a standard size stick on (not legal as not reflective to BS) plate made and then trimmed it to fit above the rear valance as per (all) the blue(ish) cars above.

I bought a standard size reflective sticker plate from ebay. Used a scoring knife to trim a few mm off the top and bottom. Stuck it on the rear bumper above the diffuser. Worked like a charm - although I assume it's not legal in the dark.
