In Saudi for my first time, our contact at our partner company topped up the hire car.....

22 litres of fuel for 10 riyal or £1.65..... or 7.5p a litre

I knew it would be cheap as they do have quite alot of the stuff but still....

I could fill all my cars from empty for about 7 quid, rather than the 100+ it does here!

What octane rating? I think it's 95 RON for special next door in the UAE (at a whopping 30p a litre) but the regular stuff is 89. Don't know how cars run on the cheap stuff... :-)

Are Tesco not running any promotions over there?

As I understand it not only is there no tax, but the government subsidize it.

When I went there, one of the guys had a Volvo like the one I have at home.

He filled it up, cost him £7. It costs me £70 at home.

They drive EVERYWHERE! But then it was 45 degrees during the day so a car with aircon car was preferable to walking.

I'd rather pay £50/litre than live in Saudi Arabia.

Horrible place.

I'd be able to fill up my tank 18 times for the same price it costs to fill up once over here in the UK...

I'm not too bothered as at least we have a boozer wherever you go! smile

A few people I work with have been there and based on their experiences i'd agree.

Untaxed regular petrol is roughly the equivalent of 30-35p/L right now. Here in NJ I'm paying roughly 45p for regular and 54p for super.

I'd rather pay triple UK prices than live in Saudi, however I'm not even allowed in the country so it's a moot point smile

Cheap petrol is bugger all use for 50% of the population who aren't allowed to drive for the crime of being female!

Considering that the U.S. is around ~60p/litre for decent fuel (e.g. Shell premium!), I'd rather go and live there than Saudi Arabia - well worth the extra!
