I wanted to remove the front plinth on my car to refit the number plate without it. I know many of you have done this before but the number plate is stuck to the plinth and does not appear to want to come off. Anybody got any good advice how to remove it without causing any damage. Many thanks Darren

Thanks Graham, just wondered if anyone had a tried and tested method to remove a stuck on plate. It feels like it might break if I force it.

to remove the plate there are 2 options:

1. buy a new plate for a tenner, you can take advantage and get 3/4 size which looks better when stuck directly on the bumper smile

2. Go down Halfords and buy some "sticky stuff remover" aerosol. Spray it behind the plate as much as you can, wait 5 mins and gently peel back plate...really handy stuff to have in the garage....

I've yet to see an Aston where mounting the number plate directly onto the bodywork has improved the aesthetics of the front of the car.

My view would be the removal of the plinth improves the looks of the car substantially - but I do guess that is down to personal opinion. I think it improved the look of mine. The first picture is before and the second after

Perhaps could have gone even smaller with the plate - but wanted to stay legal smile

Sorry Darren, should of read your post properly. Try heating plate it up or spray WD40 behind, may loosen it up....

I just don't agree. It looks cheapened, almost as though something important has fallen off. I simply can't understand why anyone would wish make their car appear as though they've crashed into the back wall of the garage too many times.

As opposed to looking like Aston forgot they would need to mount a front number so bolted on a lump of plastic at the last minute. Each to their own but I think the mount looks cheap and nasty.

The mount is massive and ugly, I would prefer a stick on plate, on the bonnet a la e-type , if it was legal

Has anyone got a picture of a full size plate stuck to the bumper to compare to the 3/4 one. I like the look of the cars with the grill exposed.

I took that great big lump of crappy looking plastic off mine as soon as a) I posted a picture of my new car and it was suggested I remove it and b) when I got a new number plate made.

Its still sitting in my garage as I don't know what to do with it really.

Plastic trim tool between them and hair dryer to front of plate, slowly prise it off
Unbolt the plinth as per other threads
The OCD ones remove the screw clips as well wink
I've used heavy duty velcro to keep the smaller plate on
