Hi there I posted a topic before in regards to choosing between an a2 and a golf both were 1.4s.
Firstly id like to start with my first car which was a vauxhall corsa 1.0 B which was a fantastic car and was completely bog standard. The corsa lasted me a couple of months for going to 6th form and back and was really good on fuel however that car gave me a lot of headache, every time I would past 60mph engine light would come on and also the seat was not secure so i was moving forward and back alot!! But to be fair I got the car for 300£ and sold it for a profit of 320£!!
When i sold the car, (before I started university) I was getting on the tube which at that point realised I needed a car but something good on fuel and good looks and a reliable company, the first thing that popped into my head was vw. So the hunt began to buy a vw golf 1.4 s as the spec is a bit higher on that than the E model, I had a budget of 3000£ for the insurance aswell which was reasonable. I found a 2004 vw Golf 1.4 S with 89k on the dot for a price of 1350 with 8months warranty and an air freshener! In my eyes its a bargain due to the condition of the car which is spotless. Many people have critised the car which I totally disagree to because I find the car to be with no fault and is actually quite quick and nippy for a 1.4! Yes it needs some suspension mods due to the bouncy nature but thats all in good time.

AH YES! Also forgot to mention the Mazda 3 takara 1.6 auto I owned for about a year, only one work to describe that car FANTASTIC! Goes like stink, comfortable, sexy looking car and practical. I would recommend everyone to at least try it. Got it for 8k sold it for 7.5k after a year

That is my car history so far....
Plans for the golf are to lower by 40mm first, then to find some decent alloys for the car something with the word BBS in them preferably! And thats all i to do no need to touch the performance on this car i can only make it look nice Id love to make it look like a "euro look" or "stanced" out car!
I had a 1.0 12v Corsa Club for my first car. I did 32,000 miles in less than 2 years heh.
I wouldn't waste your money "upgrading" the Golf... enjoy it as is and use it as a stop gap to your next car. If anything maybe change for a set of OEM alloys (i.e. the version on the Match and some TDis - you can get a set on flea bay for £150). Is it me or is the door a different shade of silver..?

Well, the fact a good A2 is £2,500 and a decent Golf 1.4S can be had for about £700.can't understand why anyone would buy a Golf over an A2
