Alternative to the John Cooper Works MINI?
Discussion
Can the vast knowledgebase of PH think of any modern alternatives to a JCW? I have had a few out on test drives and not sure what the downside to them is and more importantly, how nothing on the market can match the figures.
Can the PH massive think/suggest anything that is less than 4 years old, does 35mpg+ and is still able to do sub-7 seconds to 60?

I can't answer directly as I came from a humble 08 Cooper S. First, I doubt the JCW will do 35mpg average. Aim for 30mpg.
Secondly, there is nothing wrong with them, they're simply brilliant. Playful, grippy, neutral. Genuinely quick.
BUT, I have lost faith in their engine. Too many issues with chain tensioners, turbo oil feed pipes, clutch, etc...
I had a MINI warranty fortunately BUT they increased the cost of the warranty by 50% overnight earlier this year, unsurprisingly.
I have now moved to a 125i Coupe M Sport which returns 30mpg average based on the same driving style, I don't understand how but it's true.
While not quite as fun, it's a better car overall in many ways, refinement, balance, practicality, running costs (yes), build quality.
I have remapped mine to 130i power but even without that it will crack 7sec (not that it's a very good indicator).
So look at a late 130i or a 125i, and don't rule them out before you've driven one.
PS I get 37mpg over a 200 miles motorway cruise at around 70mph.
