Giving my old PC away - so I re-installed Win98 yesterday and now when I hit the @ on my keyboard I get a ".

Any ideas ??

With English like that I think you're suffering the same problem!

Check the icon bar down at the bottom right - if there's an 'EN' in a blue box try clicking on it and changing from US to UK

START-SETTINGS- CONTROL PANEL
REGIONAL AND LANGUAGE OPTIONS
LANGUAGES tab
DETAILS
add UK keyboard and then remove US

With 98 it might be very slightly different....

Mines the same btw, XP pro been bugging me for some weeks now how to change it, and neither EN, nor any changes on control panel seem to sort it v annoying.

uninstall your keyboard and then restart the pc - maybe it will find the right keyboard config.
