Anyone know if an MOT includes a compulsory road test?

Or is that only recommended if the tester wants to do one?

An MOT doesn't include a road test.

As above. Compulsary for cars which cant go on a brake roller. Land Rovers or Imprezas come to mind.

No, he just wanted to take your TVR out but if nothing came of it I wouldn't bother.

There is at least one exception, if you have an lsd or 4wd you cant use a normal brake tester and will have to do it on the road.

LSD prevents roller testing, but they can do it in the carpark. The last Impreza I had tested rolled about 20 yards!

Just a short 1st gear run up for the Tapley(lo?) brake test for Dads Land Rover...

None of my 'Normal' cars have ever been driven by a tester

Yes if the car is permanent 4wd with no or little slippage 'tween front and rear. They cannot test the brakes on the rollers so take it for a drive to test the brakes with a decelerometer.

Thanks.

Not the Tam, but the daily grinder.

Needed a road test to complete the service done the week before, but the dealer didn't bother when I took it back for a retest for the MOT.

Now the turbo is fubared and they would have found that on the test if they had bothered to do it.

Of course the warranty ran out the week after the MOT retest.

Dealer is saying the road test couldn't be done after a week as the car had done another 300 miles.

Dealer lies to punter shocker etc.

I wonder is that really a road test/test drive in a sense the OP is asking though?

The garage we use just accelerates half the length of their carpark and hits the middle pedal.

No it isn't but nevertheless lets carry on biggrin Many MOT stations don't have forecourts or car parks (big enough) so have to do it on the road - I have no idea of the rules n regs on this and how much speed they need to use, but I can find out.

I would like to know also which 4wds can or can't be done on the rollers, I know for a fact that integrales can't be, but was told (by the guys performing an MOT on my OHs) that it's ok on a Landrover.

I was told similar about my Impreza. I said: alright then, I will film it - do you know how much itll cost you to import a new gearbox for this?

Tapley all the way.
