Samsung plasma gave up the ghost last night, so need a new tv. Im not a company CEO who is powerfully built and owns a fleet of hyper cars, im a special needs worker. so thats my top whack. But im lost in the world of TVs. do i sacrifice screen quality for a smart tv and 3D, just get the largest i can afford or get a smaller one with fewer fan fair but a crisper screen.

It's a TV - a screen for watching moving images. So get the best quality screen you can afford. Everything else is just glitter to cover up the quality of the screen.

Buy a separate Blu-ray player or such for SMART features (networking etc).

How big a screen do you want?

If you have a branch near you go to John Lewis. The staff are not on direct commission and they have training in the products they sell. When viewing the TVs remember to look at them from the same distance as you would at home.

I'd add a caveat to that though, the lighting won't represent your home viewing conditions, unless you live in a shop with harsh trip lighting. Just bare that in mind. If you get a chance to go to an independent shop, they should have more realistic viewing conditions.
