Has anyone got one of these fitted? I believe you may have Dave, (Spend).

A few questions.

I assume the largest would be suitable for my 5.5?

Best place to mount in a chim?

How to connect to the existing water supply?

What cut off valve is best, electric or manual?

Are these really as good as a decent sized air/oil cooler?

Hi,
Have a Laminova EC54-182 OC in my LS2 Griff. Great stuff. Will heat the oil until it reach coolant temperature (more rapid to temperature) and cool it when hotter than the coolant. Typical my car will run 85 degrees C coolant and up to 100 degrees C oil.
Oil flow is first trough the filter (With temp sender) and then to cooler. Cooler is mounted in the hot coolant outlet, before the rad. Red Arrows are water flow direction, blue is oil flow direction. Per

Oil cooler with benefits Daz as in the oil warms up quicker wink but the downside is the excess heat gets transferred to the coolant when you push the motor scratchchin keep what you have biggrin

I wonder if I could fit one on my Van ! the heater takes ages to warm up.

I really need to get an oil temp gauge to keep an eye on things.

I've measured the air/oil cooler that I have fitted already, it's 150x350mm approx. it's not in the complete airflow and maybe that's a problem?

The one on my 4.6 is 300x350mm so twice as big.

I'm aware that too big a cooler can lead to a slight drop in oil pressure so would rather keep the sizing sensible.

Typically oil pressure at high revs is around the 45-50 psi mark and that is what it is at the start of a TD session. After a few hot laps this drops to 30psi but recovers when driven at a sensible rate.

Problems, problems!

BTW, I'm running Valvoline VR1 20/50.

How many rows is the cooler that you have might give me more of a clue to size

Pretty sure mines a 12 row cooler, sits infront of the intercooler

Cheers

Hi Peter

I have run a Laminova for five years on the griff after all my oil issues of old as you know all about them. Never had a problem since. I was under the impression the larger Laminova coolers have a take off to cool the gear box/diff as well in the same unit. I'll be back from the beach at weekend will bell you

There seems to be a few threads on the subject of oil coolers just now, but this site looks well stocked to me;

Morning Graham. I have fitted a very large standard traditional oil cooler fitted in front of the radiator. It runs off a sandwich plate on the oil filter take off. It is about 2/5ths of the size of the radiator

Only had one car (wifes Mini Cooper had a 'chrono' pack with extra gauges) with an oil temp gauge - opened my eyes as to how long it takes for the oil to warm up even with an oil/water cooler - a good 5-10 miles after the coolant has hit temp. Quite fancy an oil temp readout on the TVR scratchchin
