Have to say, I like it and the 1160odd mile range from the 140ps diesel seemed pretty good.

Had a quick butchers on the site, kinda want a VXR estate now.....

Also like the fact they do a 250ps 2.0 turbo and 195ps 2.0 bi turbo diesel.

Am In odd in saying I'd have this over a Mondeo?

On a completely different note, would you prefer cancer or AIDS?

Saw it advertised on the TV and from looks alone I have to admit it did look quite nice.

I bought a new (to me) car recently. It went back a couple of days ago for a few bits and bobs sorting out and what did he give me as a run around?

A Vauxhall Vectra SRI 150* Estate.

"Y" reg and on 75k miles....yeah right, that's a fooking hard 75k miles.

Anyway, not that I care.

I've always hated vauxhall....and now I remember why, it's a blast from the past that was fun for the first 50yds, then a corner appeared....uurrrgh. Horrible thing.

Sorry, this is a tenuous link to the OP at best!

This.

Mrs Stenjay had one as a company car and I found it hard to fault for the genre of car. Well made, comfortable, economical, well equipped, great motorway cruiser. Obviously it wasnt exciting, but no different to the alternatives really. Dont understand the hate for them at all (other than sheer badge snobbery). Dare I say, I'd probably have the estate version as a family wagon.

What a load of rot. The Insignia is a good car. As is pretty much every other car out there that you can buy new.

They look good (subjective, obviously), and from what I read the interior quality is good these days too.

Go drive one, and if you like it, buy one!

Does it still have the worlds dumbest electronic handbrake?

Yes. This is true, although no worse than any other I've used.

Anyone who's attempted a reverse hill start close to a parked car infront will feel my pain.

I have to say they do look good nice big wheels and estate very practical.

Given it does 1,200 odd miles to a tank with 140bhp that's not bad at all.

Looks subjective

I don't mind Vauxhalls at all and fail to be swayed by the badge. In real life they're as good as VAG stuff. I've rented loads over the years without objection and I had an Insignia SRi 2.0 CDTi for 6 weeks in 2011. After I got used to the EPB and the sharp clutch I grew to like it. It handled, steered and went well enough but the ride wasn't very good. I wouldn't buy one new over a 320d but a 6 month old one for a hefty chunk off the list price would take some beating. Like any Ford or Vauxhall, the list price and what you can actually buy a new one for are going to be miles apart.
The VXR in that bright red looks like a stonking motor.

No it isn't.

Mine is 14 months old, and got it brand new.

It looks great, got the wagon version, and it swallows loads of stuff.

But....

The throttle sticks, It's fly by wire, so I don't know how, neither do the 2 Vauxhall dealers who have looked at it.

The handbrake works after 3 or 4 attempts.

The car sometimes refuses to lock, and occasionally unlocks itself overnight.

The stereo occasionally changes channel by itself.

The steering feels loose at anything over 80, Driven in Germany.

The SRI wagon cost over £25.000, and has wind up windows in the back, WTF.

And it hates corners.

I wish I had done an extended test drive, I would have saved a lot of money and time.

Saw the estate version of one of these the other day and was very impressed, looked every bit as nice as an Audi. Can't comment on the quality underneath as I've never owned a Vauxhall, but I wasn't impressed with the interior of the Astra VXR I drove a while back.

The facelift isn't very brave and looks a bit dated already to me. It would have looked a lot better with the same front styling as the Zafira tourer IMHO

It's just another market friendly unit shifter but it will sell in the hundreds of thousands and give very affordable motoring

I am convinced the majority of new Insignia and Mondeo I see are business cars leased because the employer gets a good deal

Go with BMW, Audi, VW, Merc if you don't want to end up best friends with the local garage

Its not that impressive, Volvo's D5 has been around for years and the older one with 185bhp is capable of 1000 miles on a tank in the S60
