Hello All

I'm thinking about one of the systems mentioned in the title, does anyone have any advice/experiences of either you can share with me. Interested in all aspects, performance increases, mpg, smooth running etc...

Thanks for your help.

By the way it's a healthy 400 with new cam.

I took advice from the person i got to do the mapping, going with his preferred. In my case it was Emerald. It is very user friendly and easy to navigate your way round it.

There are only pluses by going to one of these ecu`s provided it is mapped correctly. Remember it is only as good as the person mapping it, thats the reason i went with the mappers choice.

If done right you will have noticeable power increase, noticeable smoother low rpm driving, noticeable better mpg. and a much tidier passenger footwell to look at.

Go for it, you will not regret it.

In a similar position myself and I have to agree with carsy.

I believe, rightly or wrongly, that they are much of a muchness and unless you are doing the mapping yourself then go with the system that your installer prefers and is used to. Hence my decision to go with Emerald smile

Good 1st recommendation, did you put in a new wiring loom?

Yes, made a new loom and fitted the ecu myself and then took it to spitfire4v8 for mapping.

My preferred installer is in Preston, anyone know a mapper in that area. Presumably you'll need a rolling road?

These guys are in Blackpool, only 10 mins from Preston. Never used them but according to their website they seem to know what they are doing.

Who are you using for your install.

It will be Heath and Paul at X-Works in Preston doing any installation work.

I have MS but wished I'd gone Emerald as I hear they have good back up. [18 months to cure a 'MS' mis-fire?] banghead

You cant go wrong with those two. I`d give that rolling road place i mentioned a go. Its only 10 mins away from Heath. I will be trying them next time i`m in need of a re map.

I've got a car in tomorrow for a change from Megasquirt onto Emerald and another customer has asked me to price up the changeover too. If you have the choice from the start go Emerald or similar.

I only fit the offerings from emerald partly as they are just down the road but there backup is exellent as is the product.plus in seleclting an installer/ mapper i would want them to have a set of rollers as emerald will supply a base map to get the engine running but a good set of rollers is essential to achieve the best map or the type of drive you want.

So its looking like Emerald then, I'll have a word with Heath tomorrow and ask him to start researching. Thanks for the feedback it confirms what I thought deep in me boots anyway.

I prefer the megasquirt but I like to mess, fan control, boost control etc.. most megasquirt problems are down to wiring. I've had mine in for 5 + years now with no problem at all with an innovate LC1 which also gets the same amount of people wiring those in badly.

So I've been given a quote from Emerald which includes the following:-

K6 ECU, including Software, Maps, Serial Communications Lead,
Operator’s Manual
- Flying loom
- Trigger wheel kit - consisting of:
x1 crank sensor & connector
X1 crank sensor bracket
x1 V8 trigger wheel – gold passivated
- Exhaust boss and plug for WB lambda sensor (optional)
- Air temp sensor & plug
- Coolant temp sensor
- Throttle Position sensor
- 3-way Dashboard switch & brushed aluminium knob
(prewired) with connector for ECU auxiliary comms port
- x2 Ford Generation 2 Coil packs @
- x2 Coil Pack Connectors
- Bosch High Pressure Motorsport Fuel Pump 044
- x8 320cc injectors
- x8 2-pin injector connectors

My Queries are relating to WB Lambda and a) Do you need one and if so which one of these do I need (see www.wbo2.com - available from Trigger-wheels.com) or the AEM, Zeitronix or PLX kit)

I only recently changed all the injectors and the fuel pump for a Bosch one, do I need to replace these with the ones in the kit? If so anyone wanna buy some injectors? lol

Would you also recommend increasing the fuel pressure with a higher spec regulator and what would you do with plug leads (mine are currently magnecor) can they be re-used or are they junk?

I would be grateful for any information as I'm sure you have noticed I'm not the most technical person engine wise so be gentle.

Cheers
