Any takers for a wiring loom group buy?
Discussion
Calling 1990s Mercedes owners:
I'm in the middle of getting the harness replaced on my s124. It is being done by a friend who is in the auto-electric trade. We have discussed it, and rather than a repair of the loom where needed, he will create a whole new loom. He has done a few for local rally cars so has experience. I got wondering if anyone here is in need of a new loom for a group buy?
As with all these things, its the quantities that will determine the price. We reckon if we get 10, it can be done for about £300-350. That is for a completely new loom, not a rebuilt one! As mentioned, he has some experience in doing this in motorsport applications with top grade materials, and he is not the sort of guy to cut corners!
Hopefully we can get a group together to get it done. He will be doing one for my v12 project car too, so I've got two down already....
Any thoughts/comments welcome!
P.S. Some of his past work is on his fb page-PM for info. Will not post the details in case it breaks rules...

I may be interested - I've just bought a 1995 E320 cabriolet. It has had the wiring to the coils replaced, so runs OK at present, but I daresay the rest of the loom will be gradually expiring so I will replace the entire engine loom.
However, don't looms vary model to model, depending on options fitted and subtle changes year to year, so you have to order based on your chassis number? In which case, will economies stack up if there needs to be variations to each one?

Hi there,
thanks for your comments. We are still looking at the finer details to be honest. There are obvious differences for LHD and RHD for example. Aircon and non aircon may be different, but the aircon might run off its own loom. Anyone on here with knowledge of the differences?
My car is the guinea pig so to speak, and will be ready on Monday. Videos and pictures are being taken for reference. We are going to contact Mercedes and get the part number for my car's loom, and that will be one part number covered. We will be investigating the possible variations at that point.
For those who can live without the car for a few days, the easiest way would be to send the loom over, have it replicated and send it back.
If you want to submit your chassis number by PM, or provide your loom part number we can have the looms compared. If it's the same, then that will simplify things a bit, and we can just make another.
Hope this helps!
