I was at the NEC classic car show last weekend and I was speaking to an older gentleman who I think owned The Aston Workshop. What a really nice helpful chap he was, anyone had an dealings with them ????

Think his name is Quentin. He showed me round the rather splendid Vantage spec AM V8. Tempted? Bloody right I am!!

And the chap with silver hair and beard was John Gray who is their workshop manager, not only a top bloke, but also an expert on wedgie Lagondas. ( Saw him peddle one round a circuit once - didn't realise a big old barge like that could pick up its skirts so well!)

Yes I benefit from them being a short drive away from where I live and have used them for servicing and paint bubble, done under warranty. They are an official Aston Service Centre so carry the same status as a main dealer - the only difference is they don't sell new cars.

I found their paint work first class and customer service excellent. My Vantage is booked in with th em for its fourth year service next week.

They have a fabulous collection of older cars - lots of Aston of course - to look at too, it's worth a run out to just for that for any owner in the Yorkshire, Durham, Cumbria, Northumbria area - a drive over some of the best roads in the UK, a good look at some beautiful cars, and a drive back again.

I'd better stop there otherwise you southerners will all want to move up here and spoil the north south divide! smile

I'm from York and thinking of using them to service my Vantage in January. Albeit the price quoted was £100 dearer than JCT in Leeds - £932 vs £835.

Steve sounds like you need to organise a run out to Aston Works for the northern contingent. Bacon butty and old cars to drool over perfect !!!!!

Did you try a haggle?
They are consistently cheaper than my main dealer, let you take your own oil in ( without wishing to dig up any old threads whistle) and for first time customers I believe they give a hefty voucher for the restaurant next door ( I did, must use it!)

My car is in today for fourth year service, so I'm hopeful I don't get that phone call with the intake of breath before some bad news..... smile

Oh they do a collection service too if that helps.

Mmmmmmm thanks - might be worth giving them a call back.
Is the oil on offer anywhere at the moment?

You might try Opie oils, they also give discounts to groups. I do not know if piston heads qualifies.

I got mine from Eurocarparts, it was about £31 for 4 litres IIRC so about £93 delivered. There is usually a sale on or a discount code knocking about to bring the displayed price down.

Sounds good for a run out. What about between Xmas and the New Year.

Just picked the car up and spoke to Brian in there about a possible trip, and no problem from their perspective. All we would have to do is let them know date, time and number.

I didn't talk it over in detail as I'd need an idea of potential numbers etc. my initial thoughts would be a run early spring ( the festive period is a no no for me, but others might want it then).

A drive before hand, arrive at Aston Workshop, ogle at the old cars, see if we can arrange a guided tour of the restoration and workshop area, then a lunch at the nearby restaurant ( doing 2 courses for £14.99 at the moment I believe), and then dispersal.

Just some thoughts, what interest would there be for this?

Edits to add this is in County Durham, which is well north of Watford Gap but not in Scotland. Whilst people from the south may be welcome, evening meal is called "tea" here because dinner is what you eat at lunch time. Probably best if you disguise yourself with a suitable football shirt and a flat cap.

Yes I am up for this. See if you can arrange a date and we can then compile a list of those interested in going. Be a nice drive over from Lancashire.
