Meat 3 days out of date

I just told the missus these lamb chops from tesco will be fine even though they're 3 days past their use by date. She won't touch em now, and now she's cooking em, I'm sceptical.

Are these chops gonna kill me???

When I was a lad I had a job at a butchers. Some of the meat sold very quick some didn't. Do you think we chucked it out after a few days ?. The rule was if it didn't stink get it sold. And this was not a small crafty butchers....

I agree with the smellers and lookers.

If it looks fine, it is fine.
If it looks unhealthy and it smells bin it.

Yes, I do appreciate that it's dead, so pretty fking unhealthy.
But, the sentiment remains - gone off meat just looks wrong.

Good aged steak can be blackish and greenish - but still healthy.


Obviously be more careful if your pregnant as you don't want pass the 'germs' to the baby.

Supermarkets use that stuff all the time! If its going out of date it gets sent away, covered in a lovely sauce to hide the funny colour and frozen - hey presto - BBQ chicken skewers!
