Mk2 Escort Pinto conversion - wont switch off!

Hi all
Just finished a pinto conversion on my Escort. When I switch the key off the engine continues to run and the battery light comes on. I have to pull the HT lead at the coil to stop it.
The coil seems very hot to touch too.
Any ideas whats up? Ignition switch maybe?

Probably a fault in the ignition switch.

Otherwise the coil, ballast resistor and ignition switch connected up wrong.

On Fords the ballast resistor is often in the loom
