Worth breaking Audi S8?
Discussion
Hi Guys
A work colleague has a 1998 Audi S8 4.2 V6.
Unfortunately whilst parked up someone struck it causing damage to the rear bumper and some panel damage. I have not seen the car post incident but have been assured that this is all the damage.
He only has 3rd party insurance so his only option is to scrap the car / sell as spared repairs.
If I purchased the car for £300 could I make a decent amount stripping it?
I have a large garage and the tools but have never broken a car for profit before.
Any one have any idea what the engine alone could be worth with it being the 4.2 V6??
I would only take it on if I thought I could make a grand or so on it.
Cheers

Weigh it it. It's only an old Audi
Don't be stupid. If memory serves, someone here stripped his A8 and around £2000. Even A8Parts (Prestige Motor Company) will buy cars for around £500 to break. If you can be bothered to properly strip, sell and scrap the car down to every last but and bolt you'll easily see £300 back.Hell, the foglight covers alone are £70 a piece!
I'd definitely see about getting it fixed, as they are supremely good cars. But it may be uneconomical to repair. In which case, it's still worth quite a bit of cash. Even the S8 goodies like the wheels, the chrome mirrors and the half leather, half alcantara interior are attractive to A8 owners looking to upgrade their parts. The engines are also popular with kit car loons!

If the gearbox functions correctly you'll get £500 for that alone.
If it is beyond economical repair you'll easy see your money back and probably at least £1000 profit
Even better if there is some sort of service history for the gearboxes on these, as the gearboxes are prone to failure given the fact that Audi advised they were 'sealed for life'. They seem to do much better with keen servicing. I have seen gearboxes from scrapped cars selling for £500, so I guess to those who have a knackered gearbox and don't want to pay £1500 for a reconditioned unit, they'll take the chance on a £500 'box!If it is beyond economical repair you'll easy see your money back and probably at least £1000 profit
Try it. Record every hour spent and penny spent on removing items and posting them, people not showing up, advertising costs and the hassle of storing a car in pieces. Then tell us how it all stacked up. Chances are you'll find a few parts sell quickly and you'll be left with the rest. If you can do that and make £300 profit in 48 hours without dirtying your hands then do it. I doubt you will though.

Why would he sell it for £300 then?
Because he will not get off his arse and sort it out!He will not put the leg work in.
I often get asked to sell cars for people just because of the hassle they want to do without.
either by buying it and the re-selling in ebay and letting him know what your profit was or breaking it for parts and making an even bigger profit.
