OPC ex demonstrators

Hi Folks, have test driven a Cayman this morning and liked it very much. What's the general consensus on buying ex demonstrators- e.g. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p... ?
I'll be doing 25,000 miles per annum and so a few thousand to start with is neither here nor there; however I'm slightly concerned any such car will have had a bit of a caning. Anyone done it and been happy or not? Given the warranty will only be for 24 months I guess the cost saving needs to be significant vs new.

The drive by Porsche GB/OPC to get 'people in to product' means these cars are often driven by the absolutely clueless who are given the keys and told to enjoy, without even the simplest instruction to let it warm up before thrashing it.
Whether it can be proven that actually harms the car I don't know, but given they don't even require (or themselves use) super unleaded I'm not certain how well these cars are looked after especially in the running in period.
I was given a brand new cayman S with 0 miles on the clock and encouraged to enjoy it no advice on keeping below whatever rpm is recommended in the handbook etc.
Then again how well can you know any car has been looked after unless you buy brand spanking new?

If you are going to be doing 25K miles per year for a couple of years and the OPC puts a full warranty on the car I don't see the problem. Your mileage will probably devalue the car more than 95 miles driven by unknown users.
If it was a long term keeper, to be cherished and used on sunny days or weekends, you might be better off buying new.

I've done it and have been happy. Regardless of how we think we need to treat engines, how many out there have actually failed due to being ran hard from cold etc? Who knows....

Also I think you will get the balance of the first year warranty + 2 full years after that when buying nearly new.

Thanks folks, the one at Mayfair was an example rather than the one I want. Agree on the warranty, if a balance of the first year cover plus 2 yrs can be negotiated it covers off any potential issues. I would aim for 10% off a new car so needs to be better than that for an ex demo I guess; time to start ringing round.

1000 cars per year are Porsche ex demo.
Also who checks on a 2 owner car that the 1st owner was the OPC ?
Then you have all the pre reg cars to add to the 1000 demo cars.

I would say don't worry and treat it as a 2nd hand car as regards to value.

Bought my 911 as a pre reg , 13 miles on the clock at the equivalent of 23% off list.
Wouldn't be keen buying a demo at all and certainly wouldn't buy an ex Porsche experience car full stop.
My son was looking at Audi S 3 a few years ago , there was plenty of low mileage metallic blue available with low mileage , exactly the same colour as the S3 's that were given a good thrashing at Silverstone with next to no miles on at the Audi driving experience a few weeks before.
I was at a charity driving day at Croft in July , Porsche , Bentley , Maserati and others were getting thrashed round the track by all and sundry , all were demo cars.
Let the buyer beware.

its on the log book mine was first registered new to an opc one week before purchase and I bought with 4 miles on the clock which would be the pdi miles and is on my bill of sale.as per buster73 who bought his car with 13 miles on the clock,pre registered cars with low miles(less than 20)are good purchases with nice discounts to be had.
but an ex demo with 100+ miles on the clock I too would not touch!

I bought a 991 C2S Cab from an OPC sold as an ex Porsche directors car, 3000 mls looked mint (with buyer blindness) Got it home had a proper look underneath and the exaust was red rust, the brakes discs were glazed and rusty with signs of overheating took out the battery cover and there was white corrosion on all the metal that should look like new the ryres were scrubbed - all in all it was a dog. When I complained turns out it was a Porsche experience car and had spent most of the 3000 mls going up and down the Ice Hill! Needless to say it went back lesson learned!Wouldn't worry about it myself.
When SonnyM (PH'er with an RS60) was buying his car, there was a comedy moment after he'd put a deposit down on one - seeing pictures of his soon to be pride and joy being thrashed sideways in Evo (or Autocar etc) was not what he expected to find!
Luckily deposit returned... Press cars are not Molly coddled! However I'm not sure how much real damage this does if it's for a small percentage of its life, suspension components are replaceable, tyres takes are clearly consumables... engine I guess could have premature wear, but you don't hear lots of horror stories even on forums.
