Don't very often drive the mrs's Boxster but took it for a spin today and noticed a small 'issue'. frown
There are no strange noises, no warning lights or any other warning signs but it refuses to rev beyond 4500 rpm when under load, but will rev, all be it a little hesitantly when out of gear.
Anyone any ideas?

Not got any kit myself but got a friendly back street garage around the corner, will have to find time to pop it round.
No idea how long it's been like it, asked the Mrs, and she just said she never revs it that high anyway. banghead

.....well I don't know if Stutgarts finest just needed a little attention in the form of an Italian tune up but the problems were on my drive out to Donington today, the original post typed during their AGM, the drive back home and the car was fine driving pulling smooth and powerful all the way to 7000 rpm.
Still tempted to get it plugged in to the OBC to see if any errors are there and will try and get some feedback from its regular user but I think it just needed a thrash. smile

Possibly something on the ht side - coil pack breaking down perhaps.

Hope not, it had a set of plugs and coil packs earlier in the year.

Could be a sensor or cam chain slippers which are not cheap to sort which throw the timing when giving up the ghost...

Right I am pretty much 100% sure on this one buddy! Having done two myself, it's your MAF, that's the Mass airflow sensor. This measures the air going into the air intake and fuel mix etc. Your symptoms clearly tie in and the warning light will come on soon but 4500 rpm limit is commensurate with it finally letting go.
You can get a cheap one off ebay, £30 and they are total poop, they just don't work. You need a Bosch and only a Bosch MAF. Fitting is sooooo easy, open the rear engine compartment and the MAF is held in place with two torx screws and a connector sitting on top of the air intake. The hardest part of fitting a MAF is getting to the engine of a boxster!! wink
That said, get a workshop to plug the car into a diagnostic and the fault code will confirm this. My VW dealer did this as I took the code and checked online, cost me a tenner for the read out.
The Bosch part can be ordered from a local motor factors and is about £120-£140 from memory. I have also done one on a Mercedes and the symptoms were exactly the same. Tell me how you get on.

Ok....major thread resurrection, the original problem disappeared with out any further action and has been through my local Indy a few times since so I'd pretty much forgot about this......
Well the problem appears to have returned, so time to 'pop the bonnet' and have a poke about, reading into changing the MAF and some sites mention that the part is held in with tamper proof torx bolts, is this the case on UK spec cars?

You can buy the tamper proof torx keys from halfords. They're essentially torx keys with a hole in the middle.

You can buy the Torx bits required from Halfords or Machine Mart, they just have a hole up the centre of them which fits over the pin in the centre of the Torx bolt.
