Hmmmmm, 6 months or 12 !

My tax disc on the S3 runs out at the end of November, and because the Winter seemed to drag on forever this year, I have been telling my fellow car enthusiast mates, I'm not taxing my S over the winter again!
I didn't know what the difference in price was until I got the renewal notice, and I was slightly perplexed as to which month I would re-start the Tax period.
Some people start their Tax disc in May, but that seems far too late to me, then I considered taxing for 12 months in early Spring, then cancelling after say 8 or 9 months, but I'm not convinced the financial refund actually makes it worthwhile??

I would be fuming if we had a mild winter day, and I was unable to use my favourite toy!

I use my S2 more in the winter months (dry roads) than I do in the summer, I love to wrap up warm then go for a blast, especially down to the South coast to see family.
Not always with the roof down but if its a sunny crisp day then the Targa panels will be removed.
Another reason for keeping her road legal all year round is the main car is getting on a bit now so if that fails to start then I know I have the TVR to fall back on.

Tax discs are to be scrapped and replaced by an electronic register bbc clicky
It looks like there will be a "Pay as you go" monthly option which would suit me.

Sounds ok to me, even if only not taxed for one month (holidays, dreadful weather, repairing it or whatever)that will out weigh the 5% premium. It looks like there will be a "Pay as you go" monthly option which would suit me.

You'll still have to choose 6 months or 12 months but be able to spread the cost over monthly payments with a 5% charge for the facility.

Having just read it, it doesn't seem to say its "pay as you go" In the strictest sense - just a way of spreading the cost of the charge. I guess the implication of DDM means it may actually be able to be used in that way.
