I will cut traight to the point on this one.

Job posting was put up in work a few week ago for section leader, i am interested in this position but i knew one was coming up on the contract i am currently working on. 3 people applied for the one position and all had good interviews apparently, now the company has opened up another two posts and filled them just as quick with the previous 3 applicants.

One of them positions now filled is one that i would of applied for so now i am pissed off with the whole affair!. Especially seen as tho the guy who filled it is currently a temp.

Would i be correct in thinking that this is abit of a dirty trick and the posting should be put back up? Bearing in mind that it wasn't made aware to all employees what was happening! I have spoken at supervisor level and basically thats the info i got from him above.

There are no must do procedures in posting jobs. Your best course of action is most likely to lodge a formal grievance. This may prompt the company to investigate their own procedure. It is no guarantee to overturn the decision though.

Tbh it makes sense from the company's point of view. They've got two candidates who appear to be suitable - why go through all the hassle of advertising/shortlisting/interviewing again?

To answer your question - unless the company has a policy for advertising all vacancies openly I don't think you have much recourse.

So you're pissed off about not getting a job that you didn't apply for? There's a moral in there somewhere.

From what i hear there is such a procedure its just like most things only when it suits. There wasnt really any shortlisting or anything like i said 3 people went for 1 position then it became 3. I think it got to me more the fact that i have done the job on many occasions last time being last friday, but yet it seems more suitable to train a temp how to do a job that someone ie me and 2 others can already do?. Im a year into the contract with alround know how as opposed to a 4 month temp on a totally diffrent contract, system and set up

No im pissed off for not getting an oppurtunity to apply for a job that we wasn't made aware of and now been filled. After all we do have an internal posting board that seemed to be skipped this time round.

Look at it from another point of view. The reason a company advertises a job is to attract candidates with the relevant experience to fill the job. If you have a bank of people, who you may have qualified to some degree, then there is no need to do that. Succession planning works in a similar way. People don't apply to be identified as the next high flier. They are identified through other tools and as a result they may get favourable training and placed in a role for their own development goals and to meet organisational needs. Length of time performing a role or doing certain tasks isn't a reliable indicator of future performance. If it were, all 'high fliers' would be 'older'.
