original 11y/o batterry died, suitable replacement?

I know I should have changed it years ago on my '02 GT, but it started perfectly every time even with occasional use, as it did Fri night, then after a 20 min trip, stop of at the offy 5 mins from home, damn thing dead as a dodo.Phoned a few places today with the Motorcraft no (BXT-59-540) and they all struggled, asking me to bring it in to check for terminal orientation and correct dimensions etc, all the UK suppliers'websites don't recognise yanks.
One of the MOCBG threads ended up with an almost exact match but still needed packing to get the clamp to grip, don't fancy that.
Any help welcome.
