I need to sell my December 1996 Chimaera and do not have a clue about value. I have owned it for three years and have done around 6000 miles.
An engine rebuild was done by TVR Power at around 70000 miles and I have lots of history regarding all work and money spent over the years before I bought.
More recently full respray, new discs and pads,2 tyres, outriggers, recon rad, new swirlpot, power steering rack refurb, Gaz Gold Pro, Hood, Leather seats and leather to do more with the interior.
Real Carbon Fibre Mirrors, I think the only ones on any Chim.

Value needed as I am clueless and need to get it in the classified as soon as possible.

And Reg P15TVR comes with the car.

Try an average value of the cars for that year/ condition and take a some off for the mileage. At that sort of mileage after the rebuild, I should imagine it would be getting around the time for another cam.

The other alternative is to Ebay, which is a harsh reality of what you think it is worth and what people are prepared to pay for it within the timescale you have.

Its a tough one.

If it was mine and someone offered me 5k for it, I think I'd be taking it, even though they'd probably be getting a good car for their money.

How about starting off at what you oaid for it and adding asomenif you've had it resprayed etc. If it's a good respray and all work is good then I'd say 5k is too cheap. End If they day all depends in actual condition which your the best person to say.

Hi Malcolm, at this time of year I would put your car on ebay (Sunday night for 7 days) with a start price of 99p (gets plenty of interest/bids) and hope to get £4-5k.
Take the plate off and sell seperately for £600 ish.

Good luck, Paul.

Oh dear frown here we go again with cheap Chimaeras... IMHO, the mileage is not a factor... it's the condition, and service history/maintenance that's important. A 150K car can have been completely rebuilt, and be in better condition than one that's done 50K, (in some cases better than when it left the factory) and have mostly newer parts on it.

I really don't see high mileage as being a reason to lower your cars value. The dealers see things differently and put a premium on low mileage cars... Why? The low mileage car won't cost you any less to run than a high mileage car, and in many cases may well cost you more....

This low mileage/high premium is rife in the classic car market.. I understand that if you can buy a 1960's Ferrari that's only done 10K then you may have something a bit special... but we're TVR fans FFS, and I'd like to think we live in the real world... wink

Well, that's how I see it... ;

The value of cars is mileage sensitive Chilli and there's no getting away from it. I don't mind a high miler myself, but unfortunately, many would run for the hills at the idea of a 100k+ TVR.

It's worth what anyone is willing to pay for it is the answer. Often though it is worth more to you than what someone else is willing to pay so just keep it and enjoy!

I think the best you could hope for is to put it up at the same price you bought it for and hope it attracts someone similar to yourself who isn't put off by the mileage.

Malcolm,
I think you need play on your history as much as the cars when you advertize the car which surely must help value/sell the car..

Sad to say, I'd guess someone would pay around 4.5-5k Right now, being winter nobody will want to use it. (Advertise it for 6k though and be prepared to haggle)

My car was just over 100k, I still got good money for my car (over 8k). The bodywork and interior were pristine though, recent cam-shaft and body off restoration.

Sold within 3 days of posting the advert.

You'd be amazed at the amount of cars that are sold "in amazing condition" and find they're anything but upon viewing.

People should be impressed that a TVR has covered such a milage! I still meet with regular bigotry that TVRs break down all the time. So if they break down, they will never achieve starship mileage! QED. You can't have your cake and eat it! I rest my case. Condition, condition, condition. Forget the mileage.

I have a friend who is selling his 93,000 miler. It's flipping immaculate - with much love and money lavished over his 7 year ownership! Unfortunately the rest of the car-buying world still see the need for a low mileage premium. It's all about perception... irked

I wouldn't disagree with any of what you've said. People tend to equate higher mileage TVRs with tired and scruffy. If everything has been kept on top of, rebuilt, re-trimmed, re-furbished etc as required, a high miler is a good proposition.

Out of interest, where is your friends car and how much is he asking?
