Missing my GT3's....

I have to confess 2 months after last driving my 996 GT3 Gen 2 and my 997 GT3 Gen 2 before dropping them to JZM to sell, I miss them like hell. It's a feeling far worse than being dumped by a hot girl in your teenage years (happened a few times to me!) cause you took them for granted (same as I did for my GT3's I think). So I just want to warn anyone that is thinking of doing the same - DON'T DO IT - tears will be coming your way if you do. And I've got a 993 turbo and a 930 turbo to make me feel better (but they don't soften the blow of losing my beloved GT3's as lovely as they are). See you back on track in a GT3 (or two) next year boys and girls, I'm on the hunt!

best thing I did was sell mine, bar the resale values going up of course.I get far more enjoyment from the other 2 cars I own than I did off my GT3.
I keep looking at GT3's as I love the idea of owning one , but have to make myself remember why I sold one in the 1st place. I think a week or so back into owner ship I would be swearing at it.
I remember people posting about a GT3 that isn't tracked is a waste of space back in 2010 when I got mine. I thought at the time, that was somewhat overstating the case? However, after 3 years ownership, in which I didn't track it, I guess there is a good deal of truth to the idea? I think I extracted more pleasure from ragging about the roads in the previous Exige S TBH?
I dropped mine for a Cayman and in 4 weeks of ownership, I have done 1/3 of the last years mileage in the GT3, which tells me I have done the right thing, for me? OK the Cayman isn't in the same league dynamically, but for the road, it is enough.
I miss the engine and feeling of connectedness the GT3 had and from a depreciation POV, I know I have dropped a major one, but over the long term, the lower £/mile ratio should give me some comfort?
Shame I'm not rich enough to just have kept it as a toy?

I have a terrible habit of buying and selling cars on a whim just because luckily I can and I never ever miss usually miss them.But these GT3's I am missing them terribly. Maybe it's the noise they make, maybe it's because they are part of a 'naughty little boys' club, maybe because they made me feel great doing 150mph down some country lane and then getting back to our village and tootling along like some innocent old grandad having popped down to the shop to buy his Sunday papers. Maybe it's because they could and regularly did share the holy crap out of me.
All I know is that they will be replaced. Not one but two and maybe it's time to try a 996 RS and 997 RS to see what the devil holds for me next Spring...

Life is for sharing, I lend everything I own on the basis of bend it mend it.... and if we ever go to tracks I never get in my car with someone else driving so I don't get second thoughts on this way of thinking:-) We have had a brilliant couple years laughing and chatting about shared 'hooning' experiences than simply boring everyone with what I have been doing (I can do that on here!). And one day it might be me that can't afford to buy these cars and I'm damn sure my mates would treat me in the same way.Dave Sums said:

i live by a similar mantra re car ownership and sharing with like minded pals (most of which are ex racers and a safe pair of hands anyway to lend GT3's to) - it's a bonus. and when i had a period of no suitable trackday car i still went of trips with my pals and got to drive theirs. access to an eclectic mix of cars is so much more fun. and good luck with your search - try and find a decent 996 RS, they are a brilliant choice for road/track trips. i didn't find ownership of the 997 RS derivatives as engaging. seawise said:

Yeah a 996 RS sounds just the ticket but finding one is another matter! Any ideas?I also see that black 996 GT3 that JZM now have in (parked alongside my old Gen 2 997 GT3).
Anyone know anything about that one? Maybe a bit customised for my liking but liking the colour...
Sounds like this is the inbetween moment after selling a car and before you get the more exciting replacement...
I'm down to just an audi diesel barge after selling the race car and trailer and looking to jump straight into Porsche ownership with a 996 GT3. Searching is kind of exciting but also frustrating - missed out on a couple of good cars recently by just a few hours
