Heated Seats

Not having had my car long I have just noticed the heated seats do not work, the red lights come on but they do not heat up. Is there a fuse that could of gone or any other suggestions?

Cabin fuse F60 and F61 15A via Relay 3 they supply the power to the heat elements (This is a DB9 wiring diagram though so take as a guide only)

There is a post here this is for heater staying on though but the fuse info is still valid.

The handbook has a fuse list with fuse box locations and fuse chart.

Are you sitting on cushions ? If so you may need to remove them to get the full benefit .

Not if the switch in not on the same fuse as the load to heaters (ie other side of a relay)

I suspect that The light will come off the control circuit not the power circuit.

Have you been watching my mrs? She uses a booster cushion otherwise she feels too low ( and to be honest can barely see over the dash!) she reckons the heated seat still works though - I've tried sliding my hand under her to check that but for some reason she keeps stopping me

The heated seat light is always on when you press the button so it cannot be linked to the heater supply as that cycles on and off.

I had an element fail, normal warranty replaced it. The new one was markedly better then before when it was working so I assume that they fail progressively.
Maybe the element is duff.

Had an element fail on wife's Golf, cost 1200 to replace as element was stitched into leather (under warranty) hopefully fuse replacement will do the trick as mine is out of warranty....

You could always replace it with a new element. I have done this on a couple of Mercedes in the past where the element was sown into the leather. I got my elements from here they use a lattice of carbon elements so they can be cut and are not suceptable to breakage like so many oem wired ones.

Hopefully it is a fuse or the relay.

Tried new fuse, still not working. Just for the record, the light goes off when fuse is out so apparently not running off different circuit.
Any other (sensible)suggestions

The heating element, which is not part of the leather seat cover, is available as a separate part from AM and should be relatively easy to fit.

I would answer Gibbon's question first. Do both seats suffer of just one. It would be unusual for all elements to fail at once maybe?

Also is there a thermostat or are the elements self regulating?

Ok so i am not over familiar with wiring layout etc. but if seats are contolled with independant switches but both are not working I would be looking for a common point of failure. Have fuses been fully checked with a tester and not just visually ? A wiring diag would be useful but if you coulf find some plug and socket for the elements then you could test voltage is getting there to prove element must be at fault.

Sorry just seen that you have changed both fuses. Can you hear the relay clicking in and out as you switch on? Can you test relay is giving an output? If one relay that could be common to both seats hence both not working.
