Elderly mothers pain.
Discussion
My mother is 83 and her kidneys are failing, have been for a long time, she is in very bad pain with this but otherwise, apart from a stent insert 8 years ago, seems to be reasonably healthy.
She hates going to the doctors but I think that if she does not get some pain relief soon she will give up, with the obvious outcome.
Are pain killers a no no due to her kidney problem.
My view is that if they help her for a short time it may be better than what she has now.
I suppose it depends on how badly pain killers would affect her, can any one give me any tips/advice please.

Do whatever (on balance) gives her the best quality of life right now. If painkillers can make life more bearable, do it. It is better to live for another 5 years pain-free on painkillers than to live for an additional 8 years in pain IMO
Your mother obviously may not agree with this^^ though.
Discuss it with her and see how she feels about things. Hopefully what she thinks is best will align with what you think is best.
Once you have done that, take her off to the doctor and discuss the options with him. The doctor's opinions are worth noting. She needs to hear a medical opinion directly from a doctor in order to make an informed decision. She needs to shelve her dislike of seeing the doctor for 20 minutes or so whilst this happens, it is important. Once the doctor's opinion has been taken into account, between you and your mum, decide what you are actually going to do.
IANAD, IMO, etc
