I may be wrong but if anyone is interested there is what looks like an LT77 on the flea under TR7 browsing and very cheap at the moment, supposedly a good box when removed a few years ago.wooly

And I know someone (not me) who has an LT77 on a 1992/93 Chimaera, fully working, that he is considering changing for a T5 box, so the LT77 may become available this winter. Let me know if you need one and I will put you in touch. Not sure on his timing at present, but expect it to be this winter.

Sounds interesting.

Not item number 111223811553? Looks like the oil might have dropped out.

As an ex-Chim owner which had the LT77, I would really guide you to an ex-Chim/Griff LT77 box and not an ex-TR7 one.

The updates to the last version of LT 77 fitted to Chim/Griffs made that box pretty much bullet-proof - The Serial Number should start with 28A followed by 7-numbers and a letter. They have larger shafts and the strongest syncros (not brass).

Hope that helps?

Could do with a box... I had mine changed earlier this year, unfortunately it's a little crunchy in third, put it in gear slow and it's kind ok, very frustrating. frown

1st to 2nd on mine is stiff until I've done 1/4 mile or so and the oil starts to get round. 2nd to 3rd is a right bugger til the box has warmed right up 15 - 20 mins running usually then ok. smile

You could try Difflock Evolution 1 gear oil for the LT77.

A synthetic gear oil specifically for the LT77, not ATF. Evolution 1 has made quite a difference in preventing the cold start crunch and giving hot protection as well. I used it my my Chim for 8-years, the last 4- Sprinting & Hillclimbing and never a problem - the hot rattle on idle disappeared too.

I now also use it in my TAM (it replaced the Chim) with the T5 box and that too feels much better than ATF!

Difflock are still without a web-site, but if you phone 0845 1259407 they'll sell you it staright away!!

I am not associated with them either, just a satified user 8-))

HTHs?

Guys

Difflock do a gearbox oil for the LT77. It works brilliantly from cold no crunching at all. My GB has been fine since adding this apart from the noisy input shaft bearing.

It's not cheap abou 45 quid for 3 litres I think. There's a post on here somewhere.

All good oils are a bloody sight cheaper than a new engine/gearbox. Choose the best possible oil, hunt around for the best price, then relax. I am as bad a skinflint as the next man, will walk a mile to another shop rather than pay 20p more, but I won't skimp on oil.......

I've tried Difflock in 2 LT77s, still get crunching changing up or down into 2nd when hot, I wonder if it's the clutch not fully disengaging. Double-declutch helps.
