993 Seat Replacement Suggestions

I've had to remove the seats in my 993 so that its well water soaked interior can dry out.

I've realised after lifting them out, that the sports seats are extremely heavy and am thinking maybe lightweight replacements would be a good bet as the originals are also looking a little tatty.

I used to own a 968CS with OE race seats and thought them one of the most comfortable seat I've sat in, and I really appreciated how well they held me in position whilst cracking on. I know nothing abou such things, but I'd need to get into the back of the car, so can you get seats that tilt forward and are also adjustable?

I'm not looking at spending zillions, just maybe getting something a little lighter but that also holds me better through the twisties.

Any suggestions?

Recaro Furious (see pic below from 3.2 Carrera) or Recaro Pole Position.

If you need access to the back then I'd be looking at either the cobra misano or the recaro sportster cs. Both are really nice seats.

Hopefully your sport seats are hardbacks in which case your'll have zillions to spend if you sell them.

Alas not hardbacks. I'll be keeping them to put back anyway. Thanks for the info

Hi tom, yes the immobiliser was under water. Luckily not the ecu (it's under the ecu under the seat). Fair play to the AA. They disconnected it and away I went.

Check yr sunroof seals and drain holes. The passenger side was/is saturated, and to begin with I had no idea.

The Recaro is the one to go for.. Just looking at my newly delivered DemonTheives catalogue the Furious is £100 cheaper than the Pole Position and from the pics... I can't tell the difference.

Obviously it snot long to go till the Autosports show so there is always a deal to be done.!

Take a look at the Cobra seats too.. Imola if you want a shallow thigh support and Sazuka for a deeper dish. They are £100 cheaper than the Furious...


Just don't forget that you'll need side mounts too.. and Im not sure if the standard 993 seat runners will allow a side mount to fit. They were different in the 968 for the CS buckets vs normal seats.

I just took my sports seat out of my 964 and fitted these


Fantastic feel to the car now

Before any one asks they were owened my a mate who did not want them anymore

All looking fab, but how do I get things in the back? Unfortunately I need access to the rear seats more for luggage than people though, I'm guessing they make that pretty restrictive

Depending on the length of your legs you can mount the side mounts slightly forward on the passenger side and then you can reach into the back without too much trouble...

What's all this about side mounts? I just thought you bought a moveable under mount thingy to bolt into the OE floor holes.
What are side mounts then? Me not know

in the pics above the side mounts are the black metal bits that say Reacaro on them.

If the OE runner on a 993 isn't flat on the top then they won't fit. As I said the 968 'normal' seats had electric motor mounts on the runners and that prevented them being used for side mounts. Not sure if the 993 is the same set up as I havent got round to fitting my seats in yet. I'm waiting for the first day the kids complain about the rear leg room and then thats it... cage in new roofskin Recaros and RS'd

I fitted early sports seats into my 968CS using a poverty spec near side series two 944 mount and a similarly non-electric LHD off side mount. As stated above, the electric seat bases differ from manual ones, as do the runners, but the earlier series two cars (MY'86, '87 & '88) offered electric height adjustment as an option on the passenger seat, and these runners are ideal.

These will fit a 964 or 993 to the best of my knowledge and theyll allow you to fit a GRP seat which can still be moved fore and aft.

If you do this you may find that the sidemounts are fixed wider than the replacement seat. Not fantastic grammar, but its late. To get around this you need to fix the seats to the mounts uising elongated bolts and fill the space using machined aluminium bobins (or cut and drilled bar).
