Do they actually work? Is it only while the variable speed limit is active? They seem to make a lot of drivers very nervous, but I don't think I've ever seen one flash?

The ones on the M1 between J25 and 28 don't work when no limit is displayed (at least up to 0.9 leptons). I don't think they even work when a limit is displayed considering the number of people who bomb past me when I'm at the speed limit plus 10%.

Some seem to be going to constant operation if other threads in sp&l are to be believed.

I recently found out the m20 ones are active when the variable limit is not used frown

Police "laser gunners" are a regular sight on M25, including the variable speed limit section.
