I've got a bit of this going on with my R53 Cooper S. It's the slightly corroded cylinder 3 terminal I think. Anyone had any success with cleaning this off with a bit of wire wool or wet & dry? Seems an obvious thing to try before shelling out for a new pack.

Had the same on our Cooper. I bought a new coil pack but when I saw the state of terminal 3 thought i'd have a go at cleaning it up. 3 minutes with a bit of sandpaper (all I could find in the garage) cleaned it up and the car drove like new. This was a year ago, and the car's still running fine.

I changed the HT leads at the same time, as the corrision was also evident inside the lead.

Good to hear. I changed the leads a few months ago but it's recurred, so I had a look & sure enough, no. 3 has a bit of corrosion. Out with the wet & dry them I think. Cheers for the answer. thumbup
