Bit of a brave purchase 1969 Mustang Coupe project
Discussion
Hi all
Havent been on here in a while. Been merrily driving around in my A5 which is a lovely car but its been a year or so since I had something fun and I was really missing owning something interesting and being able to go to car meet ups
. Foolishly, I decided to have a browse of another popular website that deals with classic cars for sale. That website has got me before when I ended up buying a Camaro
This time its way more daft.
I introduce you to my latest acquisition: A 1969 Mustang Coupe. Its the 3 speed auto with a 302 cu motor which comes out at more or less 5L in new money.

Its in need of some serious love. All the the missing chrome bits are off and inside the car as the previous owner was just making a start on it then unfortunately got deployed to Afghanistan and now that hes back he has found he has other priorities.
Im going to need to get it stripped back to metal, its going to need some welding on the body, a paint job, various chrome redoing, new interior as well at some point. Mechanically its not bad, the engine was refurbished only about 5000 miles ago but there is a fuel leak in the carb, otherwise it runs ok. Its got no MOT at the moment and is SORN.
I know this is going to cost me a lot to sort but im determined to get it to A1 condition as it will be a truly stunning car. I will get more pics when I have chance, probably saturday.
Oh and yes, that is a huge army frame tent which im using as a temporary garage
Cant wait until its all sorted!

That. Was. AWESOME!! Why have I never seen that before or even heard of the movie!! OP benny.c is definitely onto something here! And think of all you'll save in bodywork and paint costs. Good Luck with the build anyway.

This project is coming along very nicely. Its turning into a far bigger and more expensive job than anticipated. By the end of it I will probably have been able to buy a v8 vantage for the money that will have gone in
But that aside.. Its getting really exciting now.
I bought this just after I found out i was going to be becoming a dad. Kind of a celebration that my junk is in good order
Its been in the paint/body shop for a good amount of time. Please excuse the huge amount of pics but many of you will find this interesting.
Here she is arriving at the body shop, as you can see, needs a bit of work

Starting to be stripped down:

and note the holes down the side there at the top:

The interior is not in A1 show condition:

The floorpan however is in excellent condition for the age of the car!

As are the sills!

I dont know what this stuff under the paint on the roof is, but apparently paint stripper wouldnt touch it and some poor bugger had to scrape it all off:

However, they did an awesome job of getting it back to metal which flagged up a few issues here and there:

There were various bits where metal had to be cut out and new metal welded in. This one is not too bad:

However, this but was bit more major, I would not have had the balls to do this:

Headlight surrounds back to metal:

And that brings it up to date!
I have in my hallway here what is pretty much a whole new interior, badges, door handles, etc and a lot of stuff for restoring chrome.
If people are interested I can keep this thread up to date and people can see this old car coming back to life from the fairly sorry state it was in

I forgot to say, colour wise, I was going to go with black but where I live its so dusty/dirty that Ive decided to go with a very dark grey to make it slightly easier to live with. Like this:

Its going to start on being painted next week!
The above is not the same/shape model but should still look good
