can't say i can help on getting the old one out, one of the former owners did that instead.

and the glovebox door

and the armrest/handles off the doors

and probably some other things i haven't noticed yet

Yeah it's the metal plate I can't get off, just can not locate any bolts.
Without stripping the whole dash, which I'm trying to avoid!

Rick

Is this the metal back plate? If so why does it need to come out?

My dash Facia fits onto a plate like this but the facia itself is a wood that has been veneered. This just pushes into place with some locating pins affixed to the back.

Karl.

Well it's funny you should say that, the walnut is shot at, so I was gonna strip the walnut, recover in leather or paint the new plate I have and stocke over the top, as the plate will be aprox the same thickness as the walnut I'm removing?

If that makes sense?

Yep that makes sense.

Take a look at "Wicked Coatings" they are the guys who did an interior for Wheeler dealers.

Had all my dash panels plus door handles and door trims done for £200. Very pleased with the results. I spent nearly half that messing around with veneers and various varnishes and glues before I lost the plot.

Nice one Carl, will take a look, I am fancying leather to match the seats though.
Can't wait to get the interior all nice and plush!

Cheers Zig, no it's actually a metal plate sanded primed and painted in an old land rover colour, pretty much same colour as trim, I've done the bit round the switches since, the leather looked a bit shabby.
