Letter count on Classified Ad replies

Morning!
Just wondering if it would be possible to setup a letter counter for the replies on Classified Ads?
There is a 500 letter limit but the writer has little clue as to how close to the limit they are so may not say something they wanted just for the sake of a few letters.
I have seen this done with a 'live' ***/500 format before and it seems to work well on other character limited situations.
