PS3 / Minecraft

I've got an 8 year old with an almost unhealthy obsession with Minecraft - he's got the Pocket Edition on his Samsung tablet.

He wants the full version (I'm not sure its that different) At home we've got a Wii, an old Vista based laptop that's on it's last legs and a PS3.

I don't really want to spend a bundle on a new Laptop just for Minecraft, we're holding off until he reaches high school, the home LT doesn't get used one month to the next and I've got a new i5 but it's a work LT.

I could buy him a 360 and a TV, but again, it seems overkill for just Minecraft (and we're a PS household).

I hear it's coming to PS3 "any day now" anyone know if it's likely to be before Xmas?

We haven't a clue what else to get him!

pretty sure you don't neeed to install mincraft (just run the downloaded file) so you may be able to run it from a usb stick plugged into your works lappy?

Thanks, I don't have a problem running it on my work machine per-se it's just I only bring it home now and again and I don't want to put up with the constant nagging to use it.

A quick browse of the Minecraft Forums shows that it went in for testing with the hopeful release being Nov 30th however during testing a large amount of bugs were found and they're still ironing those out. It now looks like mid-December at the earliest if not January.
