Drowning in Meetings
Discussion
I've found the number of meetings I'm attending to be getting out of hand recently.
It can creep up on you and suddenly you are having to attend meetings to 'discuss' things and have meetings about meetings, with the content of different meetings overlapping and being repeated. The time taken prevents you from carrying out the actions generated by the previous meetings.
I've started declining more and more and suggesting to customers that the number of mass-participation progress meetings are reduced.
It seems to be helping and there is now more opportunity for actually working and managing.
Some people appear to do little else but attend meetings during office hours, spending evenings and weekends actually doing work.
If you haven't tried it, I suggest that other people try reducing their meeting hours.

I feel your pain.
I am home based so I spend the majority of my time in conference calls. Thursdays are my worst, I spend 9-5 in meetings every week.
Luckily, I can work through most of them and just keep an ear on what's going on. But, If I can get away with that I should really decline them anyway!

Same here, I meet all day then do my real work in the evenings or via email from trains to and from !
This is something I'm trying to avoid. My new year's resolution will be to work more efficiently & effectively. I do not wish to be spending my life working....although this evening I have been doing some prep for a 5 day meeting this week (albeit justifiably long in this case).
My old Manager was a meeting freak. He'd return from a Managers meeting, have a meeting with me ( Asst Manager ) to discuss how the staff meeting would be held, then have a staff meeting, then another meeting with me to discuss how it went !!!
I left the company , and not so long after he moved to another post, and the turnover in the depot he left went up by 25%.....and the staff say it's down to the new Manager not having daily meetings.
I feel your frustrations.
